The holiday season is here! This is my favorite time of year; for many reasons, one of them being that since it’s getting to the end of the year, I look at where I am at as far as my goals. What they are, and what am I doing to achieve them. Without reflecting on where you are currently at with your goals, especially in long term goals, it’s hard to know if you are headed down the right track and doing every thing you possibly can, to achieve them quickly and efficiently.
Another reason the holiday season is so enjoyable for me, is because it is a time to reflect on what we are Thankful for, and it’s the season of Giving. Above all else, the best part is getting to see my entire family come together and catch up on what’s been going on in our lives. To me, it’s all about family, which is a HUGE part of my life, and a key ingredient to the achievements I have made and the person I’ve become.
So, this Thanksgiving and throughout the whole holiday season, try to keep in mind what you are thankful for. If you discover there are things or people you take for granted, really focus in on those things and give gratitude to those who have been by your side, in good times and in bad, through the highs and the lows and have always offered you a hand, when you needed help getting back up.
One of my favorite things to do on my trip home for Thanksgiving is to think about what I’m thankful for. The constant factor that never changes, is my family and the support they provide. I am so thankful for every person in my family and how loving and caring they are. I even appreciate how hard they were on me while growing up and how they continue to guide me in my professional and athletic pursuits! Without the discipline, work ethic and guidance, I would not be where I am today.
Next, when I think about opportunities that I’ve received this past year, that leads me to my next “THANKS”. Of course I am speaking of the amazing USSSA organization, and especially Don DeDonatis. The USSSA Pride and NPF has given me, and so many others, an opportunity that was unimaginable not long ago. When I think about being able to continue playing softball after college at an even higher competitive level, it can only be described as a dream come true. Without the hard work of so many people in the NPF family; from the players, to the team management to the umpires and grounds crew and all those in between – none of this would be possible without them.
Also, the people I have been fortunate enough to surround myself with are next on my list of things I am Thankful for. These friendships, which I believe will last a very long time I truly cherish. During those times when things get tough in the game, or in life, I’m so thankful to have good friends who can lighten up the mood, who know what to say, and know how to have a good time. These are memories that will last a lifetime.
Also, and it should go without saying, but I will say it anyway; Thanks to the University of Arizona. I LOVE my school. I am very grateful that I’ve been able to call it my home for six years now. Having the opportunity to proudly wear the Arizona “A” across my chest fills me with pride and honor. To be able to continue my education, pursuing a master’s degree, while working alongside the best softball coaches and players in the country, is an experience that I cherish and I’m very fortunate to do. I have learned so much as a person and player from being around the University of Arizona Softball program and staff, I am indebted greatly to them.
These are not the only things I am thankful for, but they are a few standouts. Now it’s your turn! Ask yourself, what are you thankful for this holiday season? I encourage everyone to take a moment and think about this. So often we get caught up in our busy lifestyles and take things for granted and forget there are so many people in our lives that shape us into who we are.
Happy Thanksgiving to all and THANK YOU for reading my blog.
